Swiss politicians are mulling if a stricter alcohol policy should be on the ski slopes.
In Italian ski resorts, alcohol checks on the slopes are already a reality. Since 2022, Italy has applied a blood alcohol limit of 0.5 per mille for skiers. Offenders can be fined EUR 1,000.
According to the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention, more than 60,000 people were injured last year, costing around CHF 600m.
The idea of introducing limits is now being discussed in Federal Parliament.
Supporters argue that skiing should not be treated differently from driving or cycling, as alcohol affects balance, reaction time and endangers others.
Critics, however, warn that a general limit would be difficult to enforce.
