Shock after 120 dogs euthanized by canton

Authorities say they had no choice but to euthanize 120 dogs they found on a farm in canton Solothurn.

The dogs were malnourished and sick according to the canton. But animal rights activists say the decision was too hasty and many animals could have been saved.

They also claim they’ve been warning about conditions on the farm for some time.

The farm’s owner is thought to have been operating as a dog breeder and was known to take in animals.

Several horses were also taken from the farm by the cantonal veterinary office.
