Several nightclubs and public venues in Geneva have been cited over the past decade for serious breaches of fire safety rules, some described as endangering the public.
Following a transparency request, The Tribune de Genève obtained details of some of the violations - and subsequent punishments.
Around twenty enforcement actions were taken, including seven temporary closures between 2018 and 2025.
Inspectors found blocked emergency exits, combustible materials on ceilings, defective alarms and unauthorized constructions.
In some cases, businesses failed to respond to official warnings, which meant they were closed until safety standards were met.
