Switzerland is set to overhaul how homeowners are taxed, with major changes coming at the end of 2028.
The Federal Council has confirmed that the abolition of the imputed rental value will take effect on January 1, 2029, ending the current system for taxing owner-occupied homes.
Those planning renovations have until December 31, 2028, to benefit from existing tax deductions.
Under the reform, mortgage interest will only be partially deductible.
The decision follows voter approval in September and gives cantons time to prepare new taxes on second homes to offset lost revenue.
