School sports holidays start next week – and the Federal Roads Office warns of major challenges on the autoroutes and at the ski stations.
Cantons stagger the week-long break to allow children to head up into the mountains.
The breaks start next week, including canton Valais, and go on until the end of February.
The roads office urge drivers not to leave the autoroutes in case of jams as it clogs local roads and increases the chance of accidents. They do urge to use public transport, which is also likely to be busy, but acknowledge with ski equipment – cars are the preferred option.
Vaud sports week kicks off on the 11th February and Geneva the following week.
