Geneva's UN trade agency plans to cut 70 of its 500 staff, as funding pressure mounts

UNCTAD — the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development — says it faces growing financial strain after the United States and other countries slashed humanitarian budgets.

The agency helps developing countries handle rising prices, trade tariffs and mounting debt.

For International Geneva, the layoffs mean fewer specialists in the city and less capacity to support poorer nations through a difficult global economy.
