After weeks of searching, police in Haute Savoie found a wrapped body in a ditch near a forest road in Bonneville.
The Annecy prosecutor confirmed it was that of the former deputy mayor of La Roche-sur-Foron, missing since June 6.
The victim, a 73-year-old woman, had been the focus of an extensive search.
Press reports say a 24-year-old suspect, recently arrested, confessed to the killing and guided police to the site.
He had been working at the victim’s home and admitted stealing money before the crime.
Investigations are continuing.
