Pro Palestine protests spread to Lausanne

Lausanne police used tear gas and batons on Saturday after masked protesters attacked a UBS branch during a pro-Palestine march

Around 2000 people had gathered at Place de la Riponne, but tensions escalated at Saint-François, where some sixty hooded individuals smashed windows, sprayed red paint on the branch and threw firecrackers at officers.

One volunteer steward was hit in the face with paint while trying to stop the vandalism.

Police charged with pepper spray before the march continued to the Esplanade de Montbenon.

Similar demonstrations drew around a thousand people in Zurich on the same day, with others in Geneva the previous week
