Canton Geneva has given the green light to an initiative to pedestrianize a large chunk of the city.
The proposal is to ban cars and parking between the Rond-point de Rive and Fusterie.
The number of signatories has been confirmed as more than 4,000 – which is enough. But there were concerns the text fell outside the law. But the canton has now deemed it valid, which means it passes to the city.
But there will have to be exceptions for delivery vehicles and those with access to private parking.
It won’t be tabled in a city council meeting until February next year. It may not even go to a popular vote as the green majority is likely to pass it.
