No - drinking is not up during lockdown

Contrary to popular opinion – maybe – people have not been drinking more during lockdown.

A survey by the addiction service at the Geneva University Hospital shows there’s been no marked increase in alcohol consumption. In fact, it’s generally down.

36% of those between 18 and 34 say they’ve been drinking less, with the rest saying their consumption hasn’t changed.

83% of over 50s say they’re drinking the same amount as before – no real increase.

But in the age bracket of between 35 and 49, about a quarter say they have had a bit more during lockdown.

Use of other drugs have also been stable, 77% of cannabis users say their consumption hasn’t changed.
