Geneva, like the rest of the country, is preparing for future crises with a new network of “emergency meeting points,” known as PRUs.
Since January, each municipality has had at least one such site, which is usually a school or community hall.
Residents can gather in the event of a major incident like flooding, power failure, or communication breakdown.
They can be spotted as they’ll have as white symbol with three orange silhouettes.
Alerts about PRU activations will appear on the AlertSwiss app, as well as on radio and television.
In the event of a major disaster, the centres will provide information and emergency supplies if necessary – but they are not designed for overnight stays, but they will be open 24 hours a day.
In Geneva, public sector workers marched again yesterday, protesting the 2026 budget and the planned cuts of nearly 300 jobs considered vital to public services.
