NATO open to closer cooperation with Switzerland

NATO

Switzerland and NATO could form a closer relationship.

The NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg met the defence minister Viola Amherd in Davos.

Amherd says NATO is open to work with Switzerland - but it is up to this country to decide what such collaboration would look like.

There is a report expected towards the end of the year which may layout how Switzerland will work with NATO in the future – but membership is not a possibility.

Switzerland is a member of NATO’s Partnership for Peace programme - but once Sweden and Finland join the organisation fully - it will leave just Austria as the only other country in the programme.
