Authorities warn of congestion in the central Plateau and on routes to tourist spots in western Switzerland, the A12 and A9 are also likely to be busy.
Swiss Federal Railways says it will run extra trains to Ticino, while drivers are urged to stay on main roads to avoid blocking local traffic.
