In response to the fire in Crans Montana, birthday candles have been banned in Geneva’s primary schools.
The order has come from the Cantonal Education Office. The move aims to reduce fire risks and standardise safety rules after recent concerns.
Until now, candles were allowed under supervision.
Reactions are mixed, with some teachers welcoming one less hassle, while others and parents criticise what they see as an excessive precaution that removes a meaningful childhood tradition.
