More Geneva cafes and restaurants are failing hygiene tests.
While the canton is keen to stress the vast majority are operating impeccably - last year 19 premises were told to close their doors – the highest in five years.
Inspections are carried out regularly and can also be triggered by complaints.
The common failings are labelling and preservation and storage of cooked food – especially rice.
A similar rise in failings have also been noted in other cantons in French speaking areas, including Vaud and Neuchâtel.
