Monkeypox cases climbing

Cases of monkeypox are climbing. The Federal Public Health Office says 416 cases were reported at the beginning of the week – which is a climb of 20 from last week.

While the current cases are limited to homosexual men, the health office says a break out into the wider population can’t be ruled out.

The government is in talks with a vaccine maker and there’s growing pressure from homosexual groups to start a vaccination programme.

Those infected are contagious, but only to those they’re in close physical contact with.
