A male Swiss Army recruit has been convicted of sexual assault, gross traffic violations, and failing to follow service rules.
He attacked a female soldier during a driving duty, filmed the assault, and later shared the video in a group chat.
The incident happened whilst he was driving a military vehicle at a logistics base in Fribourg in 2023.
A military court sentenced the man to a one-year suspended prison term, a suspended fine, and ordered him to pay CHF 1,000 in compensation. He remains a soldier.
The victim continues to serve in the army. She is now a sergeant.
The case has highlighted the challenges faced by women in a male-dominated army, with judges calling for greater female influence in the ranks.
