An import from London is worrying Zurich City Police.
The British capital is known for a particular type of crime – phone snatching – and it’s becoming more common in Switzerland.
The technique is quick and brazen. Thieves, either on bikes or small motorcycles, swoop past someone using their phone and in a second, it’s gone. It’s now a major problem in London.
Londoners are now coming up with their own ideas on how to protect themselves – one the most common methods is a phone necklace which makes it impossible to simply snatch it.
Zurich police say there were 280 cases between June this year and the same time last year – the year before, there were none.
It’s worth noting the advice from London’s Met police. Don’t text while walking and don’t have your phone out while on the side of the road. It’s best if you need to use your phone, stand with your back to a wall or side of a building, then no one can come up behind you.
