Iran war drives up travel insurance claims

The conflict in the Gulf region is driving a sharp rise in business for travel insurers.

Axa says it received up to three hundred additional customer inquiries per day in the first two weeks of the crisis, as disrupted travel plans triggered widespread claims.

The company now expects more than two thousand claims linked to the conflict, with total costs exceeding CHF 3m. Around a million has already been paid out.

Demand for travel insurance also jumped by 25% in early March, before stabilising. Insurers warn costs could rise further if the conflict continues or spreads.
