The number of infections, hospitalizations and deaths is continuing to climb.
The latest numbers from the Federal Health Office show there were almost 63,500 new infections last week, up more than 10,000 from the previous week. Which had also showed a strong rise.
Last week 125 died, up 24 from the week before. Intensive care beds are also filling up.
There are calls for stricter controls in schools with more mask wearing and testing. The number of people under 19 contracting the virus accounts for one in three of the latest cases.
The vice chairman of the national Scientific Task Force, Urs Karrer, says the cantons should review their school security programmes during the Christmas holiday. He says children could infect their families.
