Don’t spend the money on a third lane for the A1 autoroute from Geneva to Lausanne, but build a new train line that passes through the Pays de Gex in neighbouring France instead.
That’s the conclusion of two transport consultancies, 6-t and Alius.
They say the new line would capture the increasing cross border need for transport and help cut CO2 emissions – which need to reduce by 60% by 2030.
The line would run from Nyon, which would mean an expansion to the station, to Divonne and Gex in France and then head back to the centre of Geneva.
The new line, according to the experts, would cut traffic congestion and help shift transport away from cars.
