In a major blow for humanitarian Geneva - the International Committee of the Red Cross is cutting 240 jobs at its Geneva headquarters.
The number has been confirmed by the ICRC after press reports.
These layoffs follow a 17% budget cut announced this summer, bringing the ICRC’s 2026 budget down to CHF 1.8 bn.
The Geneva site currently employs 1,130 people.
The ICRC says the reductions affect all departments and are aimed at balancing financial constraints with its humanitarian mission.
