A woman riding in a horse drawn carriage in Interlaken was injured when the horse was spooked and bolted on Wednesday.
The horse galloped down the street for 700 metres, still pulling the carriage. It eventually hit a road sign and overturned. Passers-by managed to grab the horse and calm it.
The woman in the carriage was thrown out and the coachman was also slightly injured.
The use of the horse drawn carriages in the town is controversial. Many say they should be banned as its cruel – but the Bern Veterinary Office says it regularly checks the well-being of the animals and there’s not a cause for concern.
