Hiker trampled by cows in Vaud

Kapo GR

A hiker had to be airlifted to hospital after being attacked and trampled on by cows while hiking in canton Vaud.

The woman was with a group of friends, including children, when the herd turned on them in Leysin while they were crossing a field – the route is part of a recognised trail.

Vaud police say the woman was first shoved by the cows before being trampled.

They say a local saw the incident and tried to chase away the herd with his vehicle.

Walkers are warned by signs that cows will try to protect their young.

A local official says cow attacks are rare – there’s been three in the past ten years.
