Health insurance premiums are likely to rise again next year. That’s in addition to the average 6% hike we had at the beginning of this year.
The government says general healthcare costs are up 2.6% this year.
The website Comparis says premiums wouldn’t have to rise so much if it hadn’t been for the government enforced reductions in reserves held by insurance companies which was carried out just before the pandemic.
Being blamed for the rises are covid, more people seeking psychotherapy, pressure for rising pay for nurses and treating more uninsured people.
But Comparis says it expects the level of cost rises to settle at about 3% in the next few years.
The new premiums will be announced in September.
