Gun shop owner in court after shoot out

A gun shop owner in canton Aargau is on trial for attempted murder after he opened fire on a heavily armed group trying to rob his shop.

The 60-year-old lives above the shop and was woken one night in October 2020.

He told the court that he first shouted a warning at the gang before opening fire. A shoot out followed with at least 17 rounds hitting the side of the building. The gun shop owner fired back several times.

Prosecutors say they’re charging him with attempted murder as he had prepared for an attack and kept weapons in his bedroom – and he wasn’t acting in self-defence as he could have stayed in his apartment.

The shop owner told the press he didn’t want guns stolen and ending up on the black market.
The trial continues.
