The plan to give under 25s free public transport in Geneva from next year is now going before the courts.
Two Geneva deputies of the Liberal Party have launched legal action against the canton’s decision, saying it breaks a Federal Constitution requirement to make sure prices paid by public transport users cover an appropriate share of the costs.
The Liberal party leadership stresses its members are acting personally - it’s not party policy.
The canton has agreed that from January 1st, under 25s living in the canton can travel for free and those over 65 get half-price travel.
But the court case may delay that start.
