Geneva is expected to be Switzerland’s richest canton and that will mean it will be the largest contributor to the federal fund which aims to equalize standards across the Confederation.
It will be the first time Geneva has held that position, and some commentators say it may finally change the attitude many German speakers have towards French speaking areas.
But that reputation may be dented as the worst performing canton is Vaud, just next door.
Geneva can thank the commodity trading firms for its success.
But the cantonal Finance Minister, Nathalie Fontanet, warns that the high performance may not last and tax receipts are already returning to normal.
