Geneva says yes to lower student pay - Aargau says no to speed cameras

In Geneva, voters passed a law that will allow students to be paid 25% below the minimum wage during holidays.

Backers say it will mean more jobs will be available, but unions objected. In the end 61% agreed to the change.

In canton Aargau, voters have decided to put the brake on speed cameras. From now on, all cameras that are in place for more than 72 hours will need a permit from the canton - and that permit can only be issued if there is a clear public safety reason.

Many voters saw the cameras as purely a revue generating device. The decision will mean many cameras across the canton will have to be removed.
