The Geneva University Hospital says it will postpone non-urgent operations from Monday until further notice.
It says the move is necessary to make sure Covid patients can get the care they need.
A spokesman says surgical space are the only areas the hospital can expand into. Earlier this week the hospital was treating 120 people suffering from Covid.
