On the first weekend of the major vacation getaway, Geneva airport is saying it handled the rush well, with services running at a level expected before the pandemic.
Around 100,000 passengers passed through Geneva over the weekend – 90% of numbers before covid.
While there were some cancellations – that was mainly due to problems at other airports – specifically London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle.
Air travel has rebounded strongly after the lifting of covid restrictions and many airports across Europe are struggling to re-employ the staff needed. But the airport was able to keep many workers available during the lockdowns thanks to the government’s partial unemployment schemes.
