French customs officials have released details of the illegal goods they’ve intercepted entering the country from Switzerland last year.
The most eye-catching was a Royal Python. The snake was around a metre long and is protected. The owner was unable to present a certificate that allowed him to trade the animal.
In another case, 50 leeches were discovered in a car.
They also intercepted 18 kilos of cocaine and heroin hidden in a spare tyre and nearly 4 million euros in fake 200 euro notes.
Garbage smuggling is also rife – in an effort to evade waste fees.
Agents discovered 900 litres of waste in a truck.
Officials say they collected around a quarter of a million euros in duties and taxes.
