Former UK residents can now give blood

People who lived in the UK during the eighties can now give blood in Switzerland.

Fears over Creutzfeldt Jakob - or mad cow - disease meant that anyone who lived in the UK during the height of that crisis weren’t allowed to donate blood. The rules have been in place for over 20 years.

The change has been announced by the Swiss Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service.
