Cut price train services may soon be operating in Switzerland.

Switzerland signed a new agreement with the EU at the end of last year – and one of the changes means Swiss train tracks can be used by third parties.

The German cut price travel operator Flix is examining using their trains to run services from Zurich and Basel to Berlin and Munich.

The company will have to comply with some rules – mainly it will have to accept the Swiss half price travel card and other abonnements.

Flixtrain says it want to use the quiet times at Zurich train station to run its services. It points out that many services leave Zurich on the hour. It will aim to use the other empty slots.
