First bite of winter conditions

Switzerland is heading for its first real taste of winter, with a cold front bringing rain, wind and a sharp drop in temperatures

MeteoSwiss says the snow line will fall from around 2,500 metres this morning to roughly 1,500 metres by evening, and could edge down to 1,200 metres overnight into Thursday.

Between five and 30 centimetres of fresh snow are expected above 2,000 metres, with heavier falls locally.

Motorists heading into the Alps should start thinking about swapping to winter tyres.
