The tenants’ association Asloca is fighting plans currently going through parliament that will strengthen the rights of landlords.
30,000 have signed an online petition demanding the reforms be stopped.
The new rules would make it easier for the property owner to retake possession for their own personal needs and it will be necessary for any sublets to have a written contract.
Asloca says the changes could lead to an explosion in rent costs and make it easier to cancel tenant agreements.
