Fight against tiger mosquito

Rheinfelden in canton Aargau is stepping up its fight against the Asian tiger mosquito.

The city says it’s eliminating breeding grounds on public land and is urging residents to do the same at home, by removing standing water in saucers, gutters, or birdbaths, and reporting any suspected sightings.

The invasive insect has been present in Rheinfelden since October last year – and nowit’s spread throughout the eastern part of the city.

The tiger mosquito is more than just a nuisance: its aggressive daytime bites can also transmit tropical diseases such as dengue.
