The proposed regulations aim to strengthen user rights, including mechanisms to challenge blocked content or accounts. But for now, the issue remains on hold.
Although the Federal Council is being tight-lipped about why they have postponed any decision making, there’s been speculation that Switzerland is reluctant to further strain its relationship with the United States, given the recent turmoil surrounding the Trump administration’s tariff decisions.
SRF Bundeshaus editor Ruth Wittwer has spoken out saying it’s likely the Federal Council is reacting to the current mood towards the USA.
