Dog rescue - and a financial shock

A French dog owner is counting the cost of his pet’s misadventure in canton Fribourg over the summer.

His jack russel decided to chase a fox into a pipe. The dog got trapped, although the fox escaped.

The owner called the fire brigade to help rescue his best friend. The team used cameras and drills to free the dog. The operation took several hours.

The owner was warned there would be a cost for the rescue – but was stunned when the bill arrived, only slightly less than CHF 10,000.
He told the local press that the amount is insane.

But he was helped, a crowd funding campaign by an animal rescue charity in his home town in the Ardèche has raised most of the money.

The fire brigade in Fribourg do point out there is a charge to rescue an animal – the minimum is a thousand francs.
