The cold snap looks set to cost wine growers and fruit farmers heavily. The agricultural insurance company, Schweizer Hagel, says around 350 farms are claiming for losses. The cost could be as high as CHF 5m.
The cold snap in April killed budding crops which had been tempted out due to a warm March.
The Swiss Fruit Association says there’s been significant damage to apricots, cherries and plums.
The last time cold weather caused such damage was in 2017.
