Italian investigators visit Valais police

Italian investigators are arriving in canton Valais this week as part of the ongoing probe into the deadly New Year’s Day fire in Crans-Montana.

Six officials from the Rome public prosecutor’s office will spend two days in Sion, where they’ll review thousands of pages of case files.

The visit follows a mutual legal assistance request accepted by Swiss authorities.

Prosecutors in Valais will retain control of the investigation, including what evidence is shared.

The move signals closer cross-border cooperation. Six of the 41 victims of the blaze were Italian.
