Cold snap stops spring

Forecasters warned us that it will happen - a cold front swept through the country yesterday afternoon.

Strong winds hit Zurich airport, causing many aircraft to abort landings - some managed on a second or even third attempt, some had to be diverted to another airport. 

The winds blew over trucks onthe A1 between Zurich and Bern - and the city of Bern was hit with a sudden snowfall.

Weather watchers say the cold snap will last for the next few days. High winds and snow will push up avalanche warnings in the mountains.
