One year on, La Chaux-de-Fonds commemorated the storm that took place a year ago yesterday by ringing the bells of the city in unison for 6 minutes 30 seconds shortly after 11:25am.
6 minutes 30 seconds was the total duration of the storm in 2023, where violent gusts of wind blew through the city, destroying thousands of trees, buildings and infrastructure.
One man died when a crane fell. Several more people were injured.
Damage to buildings came to around CHF 117.15million, with 2’989 claims reported.
Damage to trees amounted to CHF 5.25 million.
Private insurers paid tens of millions of francs, mainly for vehicle damage.
