Switzerland is heading to the polls on nuclear power after opponents gathered more than 125,000 signatures in just three months
The referendum challenges Parliament's June decision to lift the ban on building new nuclear plants — a move campaigners say ignores three previous popular votes for renewables.
The coalition against nuclear says a return to atomic energy would be costly, dangerous and deepen Swiss dependence on uranium imports, notably from Russia.
The Greens, Social Democrats, Liberal Greens and part of the Centre back the campaign, along with the WWF, Greenpeace and Pro Natura.
The signatures still need validation by the Federal Chancellery before a vote is scheduled.
