The Carouge municipal council have given the go ahead for a new aquatic centre at La Fontenette.
The CHF 73m project was widely backed across the political spectrum.
It’s been under discussion for the last 10 years.
There’ll be four new pools, including a full size 25 meter one – which could be expanded to 33 meters for water polo.
The centre will also include a cafe, which will be open for those not using the pools.
Work will start in June and last for around three years.
The commune says it will try to keep the existing pool on the site open as much as possible, but can’t promise.
