The government has lifted the ban on the use of cannabis for medical reasons.
Until now, patients suffering from chronic pain had to apply for permission to use cannabis to treat their condition – but from August 1st, a doctor can decide if they believe cannabis is the best option and prescribe it.
Parliament already cleared the way for the government to make the decision in a vote last year which amended the law.
But using cannabis for non-medical reasons remains banned.
