Last month, a 9-year-old autistic boy escaped from a specialized school in Thônex, near the French-Swiss border, and was stopped by customs officers while walking shirtless and shoeless toward the autoroute.
The child wanted to reach Nice to visit his grandmother.
He had climbed a fence and crossed a bridge before being stopped.
The boy’s father says the school should have been more alert as the boy had run away once before in 2023.
