Four million people last year chose to forgo the sticky mess of a vignette on their car and bought an electronic one instead.
This year was the first full year they were available.
In all, 11 million vignettes were sold – of both types.
38% of the e-vignettes were bought by vehicles registered abroad – unsurprisingly, mainly the neighbouring countries of Germany, France and Italy.
