The Lausanne-Geneva rail line must be Switzerland's "absolute priority", according to the country's public transport association

Responding to Transport Minister Albert Rösti's Transport'45 plan, the Union of Public Transport calls the Morges-Perroy tunnel one of two central projects for the national rail network.

The tunnel would ease chronic congestion on the busiest stretch of Switzerland's rail system, long a source of frustration for commuters.

A direct rail link from the Jura Arc to Geneva, dropped from the 2025 timetable, is planned for reintroduction by 2030.
