44 year old Basel politician has both vaccine doses already

Dominik Straumann says there’s a good reason and he didn’t pull rank.

The head of the Basel section of the Swiss People’s Party, who is running the vaccine centre in Muttenz, has already been vaccinated with both doses – despite being healthy and only 44 years old.

He says he was visiting a care home where the residents were being vaccinated and there were some doses left. Any vaccine left over at the end of the day has to be used or thrown away.

So, he took a dose that was offered to him, he says. And as he was given the first dose, he was automatically eligible for the second.

Roman Häring from the Basel crisis management team says such vaccine use is now fairly common. It’s not unusual some doses are left over and people around are offered a jab.
